Rock Collection

This summer I went through drawers and closets trying to organize and rearrange them. As I was cleaning out the end table in my bedroom I came across an old Ziploc baggie filled with rocks and shells. On the baggie I had written, "Meg last rock given at 8 years old 1996", "Tori last rock given at 9 years old 1998". I sat there looking at those rocks, yep, you know what happened next.....I cried and cried!!! Memories of those little hands putting those rocks in mine and smiling really big as they said, I found it just for you, Momma! Some of those rocks are just pebbles, some are big, some are in shapes of things.....I remember them saying look, this one looks like a birds egg or momma, this one is a daddy rock!

I couldn't bear to put them back in that drawer. I wanted to see them everyday and cherish those memories more often. So I found this glass vase and decided it would be perfect to display those memories!

I chose to display it in the foyer.

This little corner happens to be one of my favorites in the house. The rock that is sitting on the shelf came from a stream in Colorado where my granddaddy's ashes were scattered. The rock sitting on curio cabinet was given to me by John; he found it in the woods while deer hunting....it's in the shape of a heart. The butterfly photo was taken by Tori and then she turned it into Art and won 2nd place in an Art show with it. Then of course my girls photos.....they have their eyes close in that black & white one and it is really pretty! So I just felt that this was the most fitting place in the house. I walk past here several times a day and can look at it and smile and remember days gone by.

What a sweet nook! I love memories to be out where I can love them everyday too.

I guess they were telling you something with all of those stones: You Rock! :-)

That is so sweet Betty. It reminds me of Paige when she was in preschool. She would bring me a rock from the play ground each day she went.
Some moms got flowers I got landscape pebbles. So sweet.
I love the arrangement on the table with all your treasures.
That was a great idea to display them.
Beautiful.

Oh my God! I am crying! I want to go run and find every rock that Stink has ever picked up (that I secretly placed back with nature) and put them in a glass jar on my table!

What a fantastic idea!

That's a wonderful idea, for both you and the girls. They have turned into such beautiful women largely because of the love they have from their mother.

I'm sure they feel so treasured by you and John. That security of being loved is worth more than anything as they venture out on their own.

You are such an inspiration to those of us with little ones, Betty.

You are so much like me in many ways. You love and adore your girls and your family so much. It's easy to feel the love you have for them. I absolutely adore what you've done with their rock collection and I love everything else you have on display, too. Memories should be treasured and that's exactly what you do!
