Meaning of my Name

Several people have asked me, "What is the meaning of your blog name"?

KEEPER OF THE SKIES WIFE

It's pretty simple you see. I am wife to John who is an Air Traffic Controller for the FAA.

He has been keeping the skies safe for over 22 years.

(forgot to take real picture...but this is a drawing of his tower)

He works both Tower & Radar. He talks directly to the pilots and tells them when to taxi, clears them for take off and landing, where to turn around in the sky, keeps all planes separated so there aren't any mid-air collisions...etc.etc. Air travel would not be possible if it weren't for Air Traffic Controllers!

Did you know that there are over 7,000 aircraft in the skies over the U.S. at one time?!!
All those white dots are aircraft's!

Yes, it is a high stress job! He handles his stress very well. His outlet to relieve the stress from the days work is to take it out in the gym!

View from Tower at night time.

This is Little Rock all lit up!

Can you see the airplane in the photo above?

This is their break room/kitchen.

This summer, when my sister and family came to visit us, John gave them a tour of the facility.
Here they are in the radar room. John is showing them the radar screen and how the system works. This was on a weekend so all radar was being worked in the tower that day.
It's pretty cool to see how many planes are in the sky. When the girls were little John would type their names into the slot where the plane was....they thought that was the coolest thing ever!!!

In the control tower:

Evan got to wear Uncle John's head set. One of the controllers had a pilot key up and tell him hello. It was so cute to see his face when the pilot called him by name.

Look Ev that's the plane that talked to you!

Here he is clapping....it made his day!

The tour came to an end. Here is the Keeper of the Skies with his group....Elijah, Evan, Morgan, Bridgette & Madisyn.

John LOVES his job!

I seriously do wonder sometimes about how all the planes are organized to not crash into each other all the intricate take off and landing times.
