They had their blood drawn for a heart worm test, full body check, and 3 shots.
All was good!
Back home and about 2 hours after shots were administered Reeses comes to my side looking just pitiful....like if he could talk he would have said, "Momma, I don't feel so good..somethings wrong with me"
I bend over to pick him up and I freak out. I run downstairs and show him to Meg.
She says, Mom, he has hives everywhere....his face looks like it's getting droopy and his eyes are almost swollen shut!
You know how a boxer looks after a really good fight...That's how my baby looked!!!
(wish I would have thought about taken a picture but I was in panic mode)
So Meg calls my mom to get the number to the Vet clinic (we go on the airbase) while I call John. The Vet has already closed so I call the Vet directly (who happens to be one of my best friends, Dala) she doesn't answer. Arg...I panic even more----Meg stays calm. Meg calls another Vet office and they said to get him in somewhere to get a cortisone shot. So we hop in the car and drive to town.
We go into this one Vet clinic which smells horrible....is dirty....no one asks us what we need...I'm thinking my dogs gonna die....I try Dala again and she answers.....I explain whats going on(Meg said I was talking LOUD) and she said she has the shot come to her house....So we got up and left that clinic...they all looked at us funny. Hmmm...crazy lady walks in with swollen dog--talks loud on phone---leaves through wrong exit between secretary desk----hahaha
So Dala shoots him up with his 4th shot of the day. She said it happens but it is rare that dogs have allergic reactions like that. From now on she will pre-med him before he gets any shots.
John got home and just loved on Reeses! He told me he didn't want Reeses getting anymore shots!! That he didn't know what he would do if something happen to him.
I gave him some benedryl about 2 hours later and he slept well. All the hives are gone and the swelling is down this morning.
Crazy how attached we get to our animals. They are like our children.

Ahhhhh...poor thing! I am glad that he is feeling better:-)
SCARY! I would have gone into panic mode too. Our pets are our family!
I'm glad little Reeses is feeling better! Poor little poopy dog!
Poor little guy. The same thing happened to my SIL dog when it got shots.
Of course she had the same situation. She had one of the last appt. of the day and then when they got home the dog reacted like that so it was panic mode.
At least you know now for future shots.
Glad he's ok.

Wow, how scary! I'm glad that he is doing alright.
Even though I work at an animal clinic and know that allergic reactions happen and aren't that serious, I still flipped out a few months ago when the same thing happened to the Bachman.
Animals are way too special to have to feel bad!
You are so right; we are all attached to our Ellie, even Joe, who didn't want a dog in the first place. I can't imagine how bad it will be when my babies are all grown up and out of the house. Isabel thinks she's taking Ellie with her when she goes; I say she has another "think" coming :)
Glad he's okay; those photos are so sweet!
What a cutie!! Poor baby! I am glad he is alright. :)
Glad he is doing better...what a sweetie pup!

Oh man, that would have scared me to death too! Poor little guy!!
I'm so glad he's okay:)
Aw, poor furry baby. Sounds like quite a scare. Glad he's feeling better and you got him the med in time. Helps to have the vet's home number too. ;)
Poor baby! I'm soooooo attached to my furbabies.
And yes, we bring both dogs and the cat in at the same time to their check ups. We used to do them separately, and then I was like, ok, let's do it all at once and get the chaos over with!
Poor guy! So glad he's ok now.
Awww...poor little peanut butter cup. He's feeling better now I hope?
My pup has allergies too. They gave him a cortisone shot last time I went in to tide him over for a couple of months. It was either that or benadryl everyday. He's lazy enough without knocking him out everyday. It worked! The itching is pretty much non-existent now.
I am so glad that you got a hold of Dala. That is awful.
How scary! I'm so glad that he is feeling better.
