Georgia

This trip was probably the last family trip for awhile with Meg graduating college in December and moving off to Spain. So instead of our usual beach vacation we decided to go to Georgia to visit John's family. We thought it had been almost 12 years since we were there but realized it had only been 6....still, way too long in between visits!

The first full day in Georgia, John's mom & dad had planned a bbq/pool party on our behalf. They rented out the clubhouse in there subdivision. The family came up and we all had a great time.

The girls snacking on chips & salsa poolside.

Helping my mother-in-law, Nell, in the kitchen.

Meg & her daddy.

Tori & her daddy.

Back for seconds....the bbq was delicious! Nell made enough cole slaw to feed an army and still insisted it wasn't enough....there was plenty! It was really good...reminded me of my mom's slaw. Must be a Georgia thing (my mom is from Georgia as well)

The adults conversed while the young ones went swimming. The water was cold. The high that day was 83, I believe. Beautiful weather for the middle of July!

John (aka Ashley to all the Georgia folk) and his cousins, Keith & Scott.

Nell & Brad

This was very sweet of John's parents to go through all the trouble and throw this party. I think they were so excited that all 4 of us were coming they just had to do something! It meant a lot to us and we will always remember it.

The next day we were up bright and early to make the 2 hour drive to John's Aunt & Uncles house then to this cousins for a Fish Fry!!!

My girls, all grown up, sitting on the porch at Richelle & Scott's house. It was weird this time being there with adult children....everyone else had little ones and we got to watch them chase after kids.

Richelle telling us all about the many different chickens they raise (I think she said they have over 45 chickens and I can't remember how many kinds) This one was pretty.

John fixing the fryer.

Scott & Ann making the hush puppies.

Everyone was getting hungry....all that fried food by the way was as far from our healthy diet as we had been in a long time!! But, mmm was it good!

That night after it got dark, John's Aunt Charlotte showed old home movies....I'm talking about the one's with no sound that are on the reel!! It was a lot of fun to see John walk around as a little boy and make the same facial expression he does now & to see the wedding of Nell & Brad was really cool! We got to see John's mom on the beach with huge rollers in her hair and the women walking around in bikinis.....Aunt C's baby shower.....Granny with dark hair. It was very enjoyable!

It was another fun filled day in Georgia....we made the 2 hour drive back to Atlanta and got in around 2 am. Whew...vacation can wear one out!

Dropping by from SITS to say Good Morning! (Beautiful daughters!)

Love this post - makes me nostalgic for a taste of my past. I am not fortunate enough to have any extended family, but I do have eight wonderful grandbabies and am blessed beyond measure!

Have a great day!!

I've been looking forward to you GA post. I didn't realize John was from there and you had so much family there. I have lots of family in GA. My husband is from columbus.
I love GA. You lucked out with that weather for July. Amazing. All the food looked so good. Can't beat bbq and fish fry's.
I bet you did enjoy those movies of John when he was little. I would love to see some of my husband when he was a little guy.

If I keep typing we'll be raking up kin pretty soon.
