Tornado?

Last Tuesday at 4 am I woke up to howling wind and the house rocking. It got stronger by the minute. John woke up a minute or so after me and turned on the TV. The radar showed the storm cell right over our town...reds and blacks all in it... indicating really bad hail and rotation....then we saw tornado warning for our town! Great....our company was down stairs sleeping and we had to go wake them up to take shelter after they drove 18 hours to get here.

So I run down stairs and the wind was SO loud....I banged on David's door to get up and get in the closet....tornado!! David said, Seriously?? John yelled out YES! Seriously!!

Then the power went out!

I got on my phone to see the radar....it still said tornado warning. So we stayed in the closets until it was all cleared.

We did have some damage.
This is my front porch. John had already picked up the rocking chairs...one of them knocked out the white pole (left of picture) but he was able to fix that. The wind sucked my plant right out of the pot!

We had soffitt damage and on the other side of the house minor siding damage. We had a tree snap as well.

Our neighbors across the street had a huge tree fall on top of their house.

The news had said that the worse damage was between hwys 31 & 38.....we are 2 miles from each of those. No one ever confirmed it was a tornado. We believe it was a F-1....we have never been that scared during a storm before. It sounded so different.

We were without electricity for 14 1/2 hours!!!

Oh my goodness, how terrifying! No wonder you're guest were so disbelieving. What are the chances?! Glad everyone was safe. We've weathered quite a few hurricanes down here, but there's way more time to prepare for those. Tornadoes are SCARY. Phew.

That is too close to home, I'd say! I can only imagine how frightening that must have been! Sorry about the damage you sustained, but it could have been so much worse. God was watching over you!

That is scary stuff. Matthew shudders during storms and is convinced it is always a tornado:(

Last year we had our first "inland hurricane" with Ike and it caused alot of damage (luckily not to us personally) and no electriciy for many days for our town (again we were very lucky~only like 12 hours without) but it show how powerful and drop of a hat those things are~ Amazing.

So glad you all are okay!!

Betty,

I'm so glad you guys are alright and the damage wasn't worse. I have lived in tornado areas almost my whole life but they still scare the stuffing out of me!

Hugs,

Rene

Glad you all weathered that storm. Sorry for the damage to the house. That stinks.
We've sat in closets before. It's not fun, but when you got to you just got to. Better safe than sorry.

Scary stuff there!

I grew up in NE where there are always tornadoes. I remember several times growing up, my parents rushing us into the basement and pulling a mattress over us.

I'm glad you are all OK and that the damage was minimal!

I'm the sort of hombre who loves to try hot stuff. Right now I am making my private solar panels. I'm doing it all by myself without the help of my staff. I am using the internet as the only path to acheive that. I stumbled upon a very brilliant site which explains how to create photovoltaic panels and wind generators. The internet site explains all the steps involved in solar panel construction.

I'm not sure about how correct the info given there iz. If some people over here who have experience with these things can have a look and give your feedback in the page it will be great and I'd extremely value it, cauze I truly lav solar panel construction.

Thanks for reading this. You guys are great.
