Ice, Ice Baby

Well, we have our first Ice Storm of the year. It started freezing drizzle yesterday afternoon around 3:30 pm. Just in time for me to get on my big yellow school bus and drive the children home. That was a very stressful hour for me! The drizzle froze as soon as it hit the windshield. Then I had to drive 25 minutes home....the bridges were already getting bad but other than that it was just people being cautious and it took me 45 minutes to finally pull into my driveway! School is closed today because there is over a 1/4 inch of ice on the ground and it's only 26 degrees out. The high will be 33 today. So I will be taken advantage of this time and getting some of my Christmas presents made!!! Here is the ice from my back porch....I took this this morning at 6 am.

As I sit here and type this I can't help but think of my sister's in New Hampshire and all the other residence up in New England. They were hit with a major, horrible ice storm late last week. My baby sister, Barbara Jean had a pine tree crash down from the weight of the ice into her kitchen. Although it has ruined the kitchen and broke so many valuable precious items....we are all thankful the tree didn't fall on top of the children's bedrooms!!! Both my sister's, Kelly & Barbara Jean are both without water and electricity. They do have wood stoves that are keeping the homes fairly warm. They refuse to go to a shelter because of the looters lurking around! Hopefully soon they will get their electricity back on!!!

I don't like ice storms, at all. I so remember them from when I lived in Arkansas. We went without electricity for several days. Here, it's supposed to be close to 70 degrees. I don't like that, either! Just seems too warm for it to be Christmas.

Ice is not fun. Our weather men told us all yesterday we were getting it today and we have nothing so far..I thought for sure there would be no school but everyone is there! Keep warm!

Enjoy your day off! I'll be praying for your sisters too! We are frigid here (below zero) but just snow no ice. We don't usually get ice storms here so I'll take the cold and snow in exchange any day!

Stay warm!

Oh man! I can't believe all that is happening on the East Coast. I hope it gets better for them soon!

Enjoy your snow day!

Oh my goodness.

I can tolerate the snow, but ice is another story.

They are still saying we are going to get this storm, but so far, nothing.

I'm hoping it doesn't start right when I have to leave for work.

Enjoy your day off! I hope your sisters are doing okay, and that they get power soon.

Will pray the power comes on soon in New England.
I'm sorry your sisters house was damaged.
They were telling us about possible ice this morning, but it didn't quite make it down to north Houston so off to school we went.
After Hurricane Ike we don't have any extra days left.

I heard about that terrible ice storm. I'm glad you family is ok!
We had about 6 inches of snow and record lows the past couple days. At night, the roads are covered in black ice in some areas. Scary!
I'm glad you got the kiddos and yourself home SAFE!
Enjoy your day off!

I hated ice storms, but I love the opportunity to just "be still" for awhile.

I hope that your sisters' water & electricity come on soon!

Wow! We've seen nothing this year. It is supposed to be 70 degrees here on Thursday... in DECEMBER!!!

Wow, what a story about your sisters! I am glad they are okay. It has been really cold here as well--I could really do with out so much cold. I prefer the milder winters with more snow, than the freezing temperatures. I can never seem to warm up enough when it gets so cold.

Hope you are feeling better too!

Yikes. And I thought we had it bad in NJ. I hate ice storms but a nice little light snow for Christmas wouldn't be bad. And you've got the right attitude. Even though the kitchen was damage something even more precious wasn't. :)

Snow is starting to come down outside here. Hope it doesn't turn into no school {{oh no!!}}

I think you should just stay put and keep safe and warm! Thank goodness your sisters and their families are all okay.!

Thoughts and prayers go out for all of them!!! I looooved having the day off today! Did a little more decorating and crafting and snuggling with my husband who also stayed in today!!!! Nice! Now, what do you think about tomorrow? School or no school????

Betty,

Thank you for stopping by my blog this evening. So nice to meet you. It looks like we have a lot of bloggy friends in common!

It is so hard for me to comprehend snow, etc and freezing weather when it was downright hot here today! I'm so glad you were safely brought home.

Blessings to you!

We don't get many ice storms here. Glad you are all safe. When we have hurricanes we won't go to a shelter either...

Ice storms are horrible if you have to be out in them. I'd rather drive in anything besides ice & fog! I'm glad your sister and family is ok.

Yah...I might be insane!! 20 Blankets!! We'll see how it goes. I'm determined to get them done. The hard part is pinning them all together. After that, it should be smooth sailing from there!
