Johnny Boy

Johnny Boy is HOME!!! We arrived home this evening at 5 o'clock. It was a looong day at the hospital. John had to have a PICC (peripherally inserted central catheter)inserted into his vein in the bicep area...it goes up to his heart. He will have this for 2-3 weeks...he gets 3 doses a day of antibiotics through this picc. He will have a home care nurse come in and change out the bag for the next few days. The pump (bag) is held in a fanny pack....haha... we laughed about this, John said he was ready to go to Disney world. Nice to see him laughing and seeing some humor in all of this mess. They taught me today how to change the bag and the nurse will show me again tomorrow. Then I'll take over and be nurse Betty to my man. Also, he has to be at the hospital outpatient everyday to have his wound "pulse lavage" this is painful!!! They use a machine that reminded me of a little power washer and it cleans out the wound. This is his physical therapy. They basically clean it out real good, pack it with this long ribbon stuff and wrap up his hand TIGHT.

Well, I have helped John shower, made him some fried chicken, mashed potatoes, steamed broccoli and asiago bread for dinner. Thanks to Tori for coming home and helping me....Meg is swamped with school work so she stayed at her house....John is now sleeping soundly (thank you pain killers) and will hopefully have a good nights rest!

So glad to hear he's home!

Wasn't nurse Betty famous? Like on a show? I'll have to ask Lula; she's a wealth of knowledge about that kind of stuff.

Your dinner sounds delish. Can I come over?

Glad to hear he's home. Hopefully he's be feeling better soon, without the tubes and treatments. He might get used to being spoiled though. ;-)
