I'm in a funk

I have been in the biggest funk lately over my weight. I've been so deep into it I've had bouts of tears. When I quit smoking a year ago I knew that I would possibly put on a few pounds. But I didn't think it would be over 10!!! According to my BMI I'm not over weight but 1.9 more points and I am. I redid this stupid calculator and typed in ten pounds less.....Seriously....there was a 1 point difference.....Seriously!!!! Are those things even worth the headache they give us. I think after weighing myself then calculating my BMI I got even more depressed.

Jennie @ Jenerbug-Queen of Crafty Ambitions had a post the other day that reminded me I'm not the only women out there trying to lose weight. But, she is trying to lose baby weight. What's mine called....just plain ole' FAT from stuffing my face! Thats my problem....I stuff myself...I have no self control! I don't know what portion control is either! We don't eat bad at all so it's not bad foods that go into my body...we are actually very healthy, organic when possible eaters. I guess I have replaced eating more for the cigarette. favorite Gap jeans that used to fit just right....loose enough to be comfortable....yeah, um they are SO VERY tight now. That's when I finally said enough is enough!! No matter what I am going to make the exercise!!

Now, I'm not saying I'm real fat or anything. I'm just saying that 10 pounds can make a womans self esteem go down quite a bit. I want my thighs to be thinner like they were last hips are 2 inches bigger so I would love to see inches off there....but most of all I want to lose this damn ugly MUFFIN TOP!!!! Why is that a woman gains weight in the butt, thighs and belly?!

I'm going back to my walks during my lunch hour....I stopped doing this about 1 1/2 months ago 'cause it was too hot....well, hot or cold...I'm walking! I'm going back to my food journal...this really helped me last year. I'm going back to my exercise tapes like Kathy Ireland and Cindy Crawford and my favorite Denise Austin ( I've been exercising with her for 20 years) they have been collecting dust on the shelf...I've neglected them for too long! I'm going to pray that God gives me self control and that I will learn portion control as well. I'll eat 6 small meals a day and drink my 64 ounces of water and eat plenty of yogurt.....that has benefits in know what they say about yogurt.....mmmm hmmmm .....hubby will thank you (now I sound like tattoominivanmom)

I must be insane because the holidays are upon us and here I am starting an exercise/eating routine. This is going to be SO difficult! But, I am determined. My goal is to lose the 10 pounds by January 11th. Oh, I hope I can do it!!!

Anyone have any tips for me?

What are your exercise/eating routines?

What do they say about yogurt? You mean for infections? You stumped the perv.

Lemme just say that you look beautiful. But I know that if you don't FEEL good, then it doesn't matter how you look. The only tip I can think of is when I had gestational diabetes when I was pregnant they told me to walk for 10 minutes after I ate. That even though it didn't sound like much it helped a lot.

You sure picked a hell of a time to lose weight though! Trying to beat the holiday rush?

I too am going to do the "Fat Girl" post today.. At least you are taking care of it 10 lbs. I have ummmm like 30 blahh... I am walking.. been walking every day even in the rain... (big deal for me) & I am thinking about everything I put into my mouth.. Good Luck... I am right there with you sister!

I actually have been doing good and you can tooo! I have full faith... I just started 2 weeks ago and have lost 3.5 pounds. I have been getting up early before the kiddos and doing a 30 minute video and trying to watch what I eat.... it has been helping... small steps, you cand do it! But I did just mail you something...that won't help with weight loss...sorry, well not really ENJOY...but take that walk :)

Awww...can I give you a good ol' Bless Your Heart??? You look so pretty in all of your pictures and I don't see where there's a problem, at all. Of course, YOU have to feel good about YOU, so I do understand.

What I do is I run on the treadmill, at least, 4 days a week for about 30 mins. or so. I, also, lift free weights (15 lbs.) for about 15 mins. or so. I try hard to watch what I downfalls are chocolate and bread. It's never easy, but once you get into a routine, you'll feel guilty when you don't exercise. You CAN do it!!!

You look so beautiful to me and I would love to be your weight, but it´s like tattooedminivanmom say´s, if you don´t feel it....
I too have been trying to loose weight since Sept., but after the first 5 lbs. I´m stuck. I think it requires much more effort, than when we were younger and it just seems to be too hard, at times. But good for you for starting and I wish you success!

I gained like 30 lbs after I quit smoking. It was crazy for me because I am so small. I went from a size 2 to a size 10 in one year. I was much happier not smoking.

I started eating low fat foods and watching labels and exercising and that helped. Slowly I slacked on the eating and gained a few back. But I also realized that I am in my 40's and have two children. Without a personal trainer and a personal chef and not much time for the gym I can only do so much. I will never have my 20 year old body back. I try to watch what I eat and eat healthy and walk 30 minutes on the treadmill 4-5 days a week. It keeps me fit. No matter how you look, your hubby loves you, remember that.

It is is a daily struggle to exercise but I really try!! As we enter the holiday season it gets harder!

While I am still a youngun, I know exactly what you mean! I am dealing with an extra ten pounds that came on after I quick swimming/running cross country. It's so difficult (food is so good!!), but I know that I am still beautiful in my own skin. That doesn't stop me from biking and walking! You got it! I hope you like your walks! They really are great. I know that it gets so dang hot here in Houston, but it is really nice despite the climate.

I am (was) a total wino; I enjoyed a glass (maybe two) of wine almost every night because I could. For me, giving that up helped me to shed some pounds. I began to only allow myself two glass of wine on Fridays and Saturdays.

Also, starting your day with protien like yogurt or eggs is a really good thing. You'll find yourself less hungry mid-day and won't be as tempted to binge on snack foods. When I was really trying to loose weight when I was at my heaviest, I frequently took carrots, cherry tomatoes, apples, and whatever would travel well with me in the car. It was easy to do in the winter because I could leave food there and it wouldn't spoil!

I also don't weigh myself--it is too annoying and causes too much grief. I only go by how I how feel. Also, try a Pilates floor video--it will kick your butt and give you great core strength! A great way to look long and lean. Long comment...I have lots of tips!

You are a beautiful woman, 10 pounds more or less. I'm sure John says the same thing! But I know what you mean.

I hate when I'm too fat for my fat jeans. I keep telling myself to get my buns moving to our great rec center 3 blocks away for the water aerobics class. But the brownies & cupcakes keep calling me back.

Oh, Betty, I'm sorry. I *hate* worrying about weight!

Last January I had to renew my driver's license and when I saw the photo I DIED! a million deaths! I even lied about my weight...but I told them my normal heavy weight; usually I tell them my lighter weight that I was 10 years before.

So I went on a "diet" in February. I read a book called _Fit for Life_. (

It suggests *only* eating fruit in the morning until noon. From then until 8:00 p.m. eat carbs and meat separately, eating those with as many vegies as you want. The theory is, carbs and meat chemically break down differently and when you eat them together it takes so long to digest that they basically rot in your belly until they process through to the small intestine.

When you eat carbs, allow 3 hours for digestion; when you eat meat, allow 4 hours for digestion. And quit eating at 8:00 p.m.

I lost close to 20 pounds in 7 months. I fudged on eating meat and carbs together, but I was diligent to eat only fruit until noon and not eat after 8 p.m. I felt better too!

Then in Sept. I got esophogeal ulcers. You'll remember that since I whined about it enough! Since then I've lost another 10 pounds by eating basically the same as I have since February, and by eating smaller portions of food (for me it is so the food doesn't "back-up" into my esophogus) and not eating after 6:00 p.m. (to give my food 3-4 hours to digest and go to bed on an empty stomach so I don't get reflux).

It works, and I feel much, much better! AND I don't look like my driver's license photo! ;-)

Do you have a friend or co-worker who is in the same spot as you, wanting to lose weight or get into shape? 'Cause let me tell you, that's how Becky and I have become such good friends and lost weight and gotten fit together. We are each other's inspiration and motivation. If it weren't for her, I'd have given up months ago. I don't really enjoy exercising, I just like the results.

The funny thing about getting into an exercise routine is that you eat better 'cause you don't want to undo the work you just did to burn those calories. It's a win-win situation.

Good luck. And yes, you do look great. Don't be too hard on yourself during the holidays. Moderation is the key!

The holidays are the best time to diet, because even though you have a lot of good stuff around you, you are more aware, and don't eat as much. (I never deprive myself of good yummy stuff, because I have SUCH a sweet tooth, and if I go without I BINGE eventually, and defeat the purpose.)
Walking took 25 lbs off me several years ago. It is slow to melt off, but it is steady. I also had help from my Leslie Sansone tapes. I would do them when the weather was to hot or rainy or too cold. She is Awesome because she incorporates arms with walking and you have achoice of tape 1 which is 15 mins for days you really cna't fit in aworkout, Tape 2 which is 30 mins...a solid workout, and Tape 3 which is 45 mins and TOTally kicks your ass. I LOVE her!
I also do a ton of little rules I know I can live has to be something I can live with. I don't do well being hungry! Like I ONLY drink water. Mustard instead of Mayo. Don't eat 2 hours before bed. Blah, blah blah! After my last baby I was SO BLESSED to get a workout friend in Heather, and it really helps if you can find one. There are so many days I WOULD NOT OF GONE to the gym, but I was held accountable by the fact that she was waiting for me. We meet 3 times a week for 30-40mins on elipitical and we both lost all our weight last fall. (Now I have gained some back after a summer of kids home...ugh! Still trying to get THAT off!) I think this is the longest comment I have ever written in my whole damn life!!!!!

I'm very short, and for me 10 pounds makes a difference. Like you my muffin top is a big problem area. I don't want to buy bigger pants, I just want to fit in to the ones I have. Good luck finding something that works for you, you sound like you already have a plan and that's a start. Forget BMI, you want to feel good about yourself, period. You can handle the holidays, indulge a little instead of completely opting out of the good stuff.

Oh I'm sorry you're in a funk! It's sounds like you're very motvated--so you WILL lose the weight!! My workout routine *was* (and I say was b/c I worked out w/ a trainer--but she has been on maternity leave since August!)exercising 3 times a week w/ the trainer and then walking, etc. on my own.

I am way too lazy to workout w/out her and I'm getter fatter by the minute!

Don't be too hard on yourself! My old Gap jeans don't fit either. I'm convincing myself they are making them for skinny teenagers that don't have junk in the trunk. And who wants to be like that? My advice is to throw on a pedometer and walk everywhere. That's how I lost my baby weight.

Fisrt, I want to say THANKS for mentioning me, that was too awesome.... I have baby weight, but when I get in a funk, I eat out of emotion, and start thinking "Oh Well"... then the next day of course I am depressed again and then guess what? I eat some more... I need to exercise, I know that I can find the time, I am just not utilizing my time well enough and putting it onthe back burner... I want to lose 60 punds, so if I lose 5 pounds a month, this time next year I will reach my goal, I will pray for you, because I am praying that God changes my appetite and gives me perspective and self control... good luck and rally, thanks alot!!!

I too, am dumb and trying to start a diet and exercise routine before the holidays but oh well! I have been trying the Abs diet and so far I really like it. The workout is pretty easy and although I have not gone full fledge into the diet part yet, it seems very doable. We can do it! I too want to loose 10 pounds. We will see....

I'm trying to lose 29 pounds before I go on my girl vacation in April. I agree with Heather....It's all about moderation. I started walking more and watching how much I was eating and I went from a size 14 (at my heaviest) down to a size 7/8 (right now). Good luck!

I don't have a ton of advice for you but I will cheer you on! I know how much just a few extra pounds can affect your self esteem. I will be right there with you after I have my baby in a few months, but probably with a lot more than 10 pounds to lose!
