Time flies by

When my girls were little the days seemed to drag on and on. It seemed like we were always on the go. Wake up early...get ready for school....go to school....pick up from school......jet home for a bit....go to gymnastics, dance & ballet. Go to GA's on Wednesday nights....competitions on the weekends.

It only got crazier when they became teenagers. It was just different activities.

Somehow I always managed to have dinner on the table and the 4 of us shared that meal together as a family. (family dinner is very important to us)

I recall older people always telling me to slow down.....enjoy the moment....they are only little once....time flies by.

Well, I did slow down (sometimes) I always enjoyed the moments with them (except the really bad ones...I just dealt with them) Yes, it's true....they are only little once.....and YES, it's TRUE time really does fly by!!!!

Now, as adults it seems like time is going faster than it did when they were little. Meg is in her third year of college! THIRD year!!! She will be 21 in a little over 2 weeks!!!

Tori just started her 2nd semester of college! CRAZY!!

What got me thinking about how much "time flies by" is the telephone call I got from Tori Sunday night. Before I get to that let me back up and tell you about the phone call she made to me back in late November. She called to tell me her childhood best friend(since kindergarten)had just gotten engaged!!! We went over to Kristyn's house last month so Tori could try on the brides maid dress. Wow....that really made it real. They will marry in December.

So back to the phone call Sunday night. She got a call from her best friend, Natalie who by the way is like a daughter to me. Her boyfriend, Luke asked her to marry him! John & I were eating dinner at El Canaveral when I got this call....I was trying not to let the tears roll down my cheeks. Natalie is going to be a bride I told John. Wow!!! Not sure on all her details as it just happened Sunday...but Tori thinks they will marry this summer sometime.

So as we were driving home I just thought about the saying, "time flies by"....it sure does!!
Next thing I know Tori or Meg will be calling me telling me of their own engagement!! Holy cow I don't even want to think about that right now!

So all you moms out there who still have little ones....enjoy the good and bad moments....cherish all those family dinners....when life feels as if you are going full throttle---slow down....'cause time flies by.

I leave you with a part of the lyrics to the song that is playing. One of my favorite Joni Mitchell songs, The Circle Game.

And the seasons they go round and round
And the painted ponies go up and dawn
Were captive on the carousel of time
We cant return we can only look behind
From where we came
And go round and round and round
In the circle game

Joni Mitchel is hands down one of the most talented lyricists of all time. This is no exception. Thank you for sharing!

Really hits home with me, my friend! The girls, of course, were home from school yesterday and we went out to lunch and did some shopping. We always have the best time! They, of course, will be back in school today and I'm going to miss their presence. They won't get another long weekend until March 13th.

Time does fly by so quickly. I always get so frustrated at parents who complain all the time about being with their kids. I believe that, one day, all too soon, they'll look back with regret. I choose to make each and every moment count!

Dang you Betty for making me cry while I am trying to eat my breakfast. You can't swallow when you are crying.

But, thank you so much. I really needed this. I just had a bad morning with Danielle and feel like I am at my wits end and now I will just forget about it and be glad she is here because so very soon she too will be off to college and I know I will miss her so badly.

Now I will dry my tears and try to finish breakfast. At least I will be able to see her at school soon, cause she forgot her pen and will have to stop by the kitchen to get it, and I will tuck her hair behind her ear and give her a kiss on the cheek and now I am crying again. Poop.

It does go fast...just the little time already has just "rushed" by. Sometimes I just want to play "freeze" tag with Life!

I am trying to slow down....trying so hard! It always used to drive me nuts when my mom or aunts would say "it goes by so fast"...I'd just roll my eyes feeling like it was taking forever to grow-up. Now, I truly understand. While our wedding seems like just yesterday to us-it was over 8 years ago. I still have moments of disbelief at the fact that I have a 2 year old son and one on the way. It really has gone by so quickly!

Congrats to Natalie and her fiancee! It really is such a fantastic time!

Okay, first you make me cry, then Michelle's comment makes me cry again. Darn y'all.

Seriously, this post is why I love you. You know I am smack dab in the middle of the craziness of three kids and working and living and wife-ing...you know what I mean. Seeing things from your perspective helps me appreciate this time more fully than I otherwise would. Betty, you are truly God-sent.

Wooo!!!! I'll call you soon (sorry I am having to call so many people to let them know) & let you know about all of the details. I think the date will be July 18th SO don't plan anything that weekend! LOVE YOU!

& thank you for the post. So sweet! :)

Yes, time flies by quickly. But these are fun years (speaking as someone not too much older than Tori or Meg). You have a lot of fun things still left to share with your daughters and you'll continue to grow closer.

Ok...where was the tear jerker warning!? :)

My dad used to always say that time flies! And, of course, as I've gotten older, it sure does!

I can't believe that Meagan will be 14 this year!! I already miss the days when she was younger.

I'm all about slowing down to enjoy the time you have. I see how my dad had a hard time with me growing up and see the sadness in him sometimes when he's talking about us being younger. I think he regrets always working and going and not slowing down himself to spend more time with us.

Good post...made me cry, but good post.

You should put a disclaimer on crying posts!

I heart you Betty!

It's true, everything happens way too fast. I cannot believe I am old enough to have a sister who is old enough to have a son and one on the way. I can't believe I have been married for six months since it feels like 6 days, and I wish things would slow down so life can be enjoyed more. Hold on to the precious moments, because no matter how quickly they go by, they will be with you forever.

Thanks for the reminder. My daughter is going to be 15 in a couple of weeks and I don't know when that happened? The last time I checked she was my little baby girl. I'm trying to enjoy every minute (the teenage years are certainly a good test of patience). It sure does fly by fast. :-)

I need to remember this on the days when things get difficult! You are so right! :)

Aw. It's so easy to get caught up in the day to day frustrations. But your right, it flies. It sounds cliche but it's true. I see it when I look at my teen and it seems like just yesterday she was the feisty toddler. Thanks for the reminder.

So true. My oldest will be 16 in March, and it's not even real to me to say that. He's still my baby. And my youngest will be 8 on Friday. :sniff:

Aww Betty, you made me cry!
I'm emotional today as it is! LOL
Isn't this the truth. My first born will be turning 16 at the end of March. I am always thinking, "where did the time go?" That is why I am trying to enjoy every moment with the toddler. Every moment.

I have the unique experience of having one in college and one in preschool. I know how fast it goes and it makes me appreciate the time with the little one that much more.
